Sheik’s Superyacht Cruises to Puerto Banús

Has anyone caught a glimpse of the enormous yacht recently anchored outside the port of Puerto Banús and wondered how much you’d need to win in the lottery to buy one? Well, the answer is you’d have to scoop a pretty big jackpot if superyachts are your desire – at $180million, you’d probably have to win it a couple of times!

The owner of Yas, a 141m superyacht, doesn’t need to bother about winning the lottery as he’s Sheik Hamden bin Zayed Al Nahyan, brother of the current Emir and UAE President, Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. It seems a taste for for these vessels runs in the family as the current Emir is also the owner of the world’s longest superyacht!

The Yas comes from relatively humble beginnings as a decommissioned naval frigate of the Royal Netherlands Navy from the 1970’s. She was stripped to the hull and then totally rebuilt whilst retaining the ability to move at speed through the water, attaining at least 25 knots.

This is more than a functional ship, however – she is built for some serious entertaining with 30 cabins able to house up to 60 guests. Of course, with so many guests, you need staff to look after them, so there are quarters for a crew of of up to 56.

With the aim of entertaining so many guests, part of the stern retracts so that jet skis and other luxury toys can be launched from a private swimming area.

The most eye-catching feature of this truly stunning yacht is the sweeping glass that extends round the front of the upper decks. It was created from 500 pieces of glass, which had to be specially cast and which the designers admitted was the most technically difficult part of an already technically demanding project. Behind the glass frontage are the bridge and the owner’s suite and when an electric current is passed through the glass, it darkens for privacy!

Sitting on the upper decks appears to be a child’s toy, but no – it is the yacht’s helicopter! The safety rails retract into the flight deck when not in use.

We may not have superyachts available for our clients, however do treat them like royalty! Contact us to find out about our extensive portfolio of quality Marbella property for sale.
